Why did Ahanix standardize around a parallel port VFD, rather than USB?

The actual Samsung VFD is the same for all three options. In order for a VFD to work with USB, it requires what is called a USB Controller Board.
Currently the software support for the USB controller is limited.

At this time the parallel port module is far more universal. That''s why we offer parallel version as standard with D4/5/6 instead of USB version. The parallel version can work with numerous 3rd party software such as Smartie, LCDC, and more.

For our future models, you will see USB as standard. But USB models will never be as universal as parallel set-up. USB will always be the clean solution for a specific operation (ex: MCE) while the parallel port option will always be the most versatile solution. That will hold true until LCD/VFD control software is developed with the USB controller in mind.
