Which Method Of Connecting High Definition Products Gives The Clearest Picture: Component, DVI, or HDMI?

In terms of clarity and quality of the TV picture, both the DVI and HDMI connecting formats are superior to the Component connecting format. DVI and HDMI provide essentially the same quality video, but HDMI carries both digital video and digital audio in the same connector, so you need only one cable to connect an HDMI source to your HDMI compatible TV. DVI requires two additional cables for audio in addition to the DVI cable, which carries only digital video. Component, by the way, requires five cables.

If your equipment provides all three formats, your best bet is probably HDMI. It provides superior quality digital video and audio, and the single cable makes connecting HDMI compatible devices a breeze.

Note: If you have both DVI and HDMI connection on your TV, you can use both as long as they are attached to different video devices. For example, you could connect a digital set top box to the HDMI connection and a digital DVD player to the DVI connection.
